This year, the EA PLAY conference started with a 30-second live augmented reality show powered by Zero Density’s virtual production engine Reality Engine .
SolidTrack, Zero Density’s partner who has an expertise in each step of virtual production workflow, worked very closely with the Mill, a company specializing in visual effects (VFX), to collaborate on the presentation of the ANTHEM (BioWare) video game. The game was unveiled live at the EA PLAY conference on Saturday, June 9, ahead of E3 2018 (the world’s biggest video game event). This conference is the most anticipated in the video game industry and was held this year in the prestigious Hollywood Palladium.
The Mill and SolidTrack Team (Isaac Partouche CEO, Tim de Goussencourt CTO, Guillaume Danel R&D engineer) used Zero Density’s unique Augmented Reality platform Reality Engine , to get the Golem monster out of the giant screen and into a virtual fight on stage with Anthem‘s soldiers before our very eyes.
“We worked together with Microfilms (David Fayollet CEO) and developed a remote controlled encoded pan/tilt head for this project.” said Timothée de Goussencourt, CTO of SolidAnim.
For this multi-camera production, two Reality Engines® has been used together with two pan/tilt camera tracking systems.
“We also modelized the palladium stage and the videowall and applied video on top of it to get the shadows in order to achieve the most realistic image. A live project of this scale is particularly ambitious, and we are very flattered to have succeeded in this beautiful challenge and to note the media impact it has had (millions of views online).” continued Mr. Goussencourt
BioWare had already made a name for itself in role-playing video games and their elaborate storylines. Anthem‘s gameplay trailer presented last year at E3 2017 drew a lot of attention with its impressive graphics. This year, with the fight against the Golem in augmented reality, BioWare and The Mill have once more made a splash.
