Case Study: Zero Density & TF1
Others Score Goals, We Win
Reality raised standards in real-time virtual production with TF1 during World Cup
The biggest sport event has reached a new level of reality with Zero Density’s Reality. France’s most popular network and also the most viewed TV channel in Europe, TF1 adopted Reality technology for its virtual set and reached new levels of reality, immersion and interaction throughout its program “Le Mag” World Cup broadcast presented by Denis Brogniart.
TF1 collaborated with Dreamwall powered by Reality, applied all the tricks in the book:
– Portal Window: Tracked Rendering for the LED Videowall
– Green screen: Used for Immersive Virtual Sequences
– Set Extension: Used for creating Open-Air Stadium
Reality Virtual Studio , winner of two IBC’s 50th year Innovation Awards, enabled TF1 to give its audience a VIP virtual visit to the Sochi stadium with its outstanding supporters during daytime and nighttime. “To make such a scene with this stadium is a world first – it’s the first time this process has been used on this scale ,” says Jérôme Saporito, Deputy Director of Sports at TF1 at an interview, ” putting viewers into a stadium of 30,000 people who can have actions; they can do tifos, applaud, whistle, they are not just sets, then there is a computer calculation for this decor which is moving and evolving, giving this spectacular side. ”
TF1 locked its audience to the screen as Mr. Brogniart left the real set for the numerous virtual ones. The flawless transition into the virtual studio underlined the difference Zero Density offers.
Groundbreaking technical achievement has been recorded as the set extension provided unique and brand-new point of view created by two Engines, powering LED video wall, virtual and augmented elements.
Most of the players’ frequent venues at the World Cup were visited by the presenter and its guests. Dreamwall created players’ locker room, team bus, massage room and the dining room. Reality offers an immersive environment as seen when the presenter can take the jersey from the locker, sit on the bank and put the jersey on top of the table.
The amalgamation of the physical and virtual world was one of the highlights of the broadcast. Reenacting a physio session with his guest, the presenter blurred the gap between virtual and real. Also having a live TV program on the wall created a TVception moment.
Presentation of the teams is one of the many virtual scenes created by Dreamwall powered by Zero Density’s Reality. The intricate details of players’ shadows and their feet in the grass created full immersion into the field. Surely it does not get more real than that!
