FOX Sports’ NASCAR Virtual Studio Announced as a Winner in Excellence in Virtual Studios and Real-Time VFX at the Broadcast Tech Innovation Awards 2019

Izmir, Turkey – 29.10.2019 – Zero Density announced today that NASCAR Race Hub has received the award for Excellence in Virtual Studios and Real-Time VFX at the Broadcast Tech Innovation Awards 2019. Joining Broadcast’s list of prestigious annual awards, the inaugural Broadcast Tech Innovation Awards were presented on October 17 in London, where they celebrated innovation, collaboration, and creativity in production, post-production, and broadcast.

The award for Excellence in Virtual Studios and Real-Time VFX is recognition of FOX Sports’ success in taking virtual studio production to new heights, creating a hyper-realistic, agile, and dynamic environment for broadcast. Powered by Epic Games’ Unreal Engine, Zero Density’s “Reality”—a real-time, node-based compositing platform—provided the FOX Sports team the tools to actualize their creative vision of providing captivating content in a 360-degree environment.

From massive racetracks to a single screw, NASCAR Race Hub integrates distinctive augmented reality elements with real-time data visualization, massive player cards, race cars, and other real-time visual content and effects, providing unprecedented access to race day coverage.

Zac Fields, SVG Graphic Technology and Integration at FOX Sports said: “It’s an honor to be acknowledged for this award on such a special project. We set out to achieve something that had never been done before in this space and feel like we were able to do that with our partners at Zero Density and Epic games. We are incredibly excited for the future with this technology.”

“FOX Sports continues to up the standards on virtual studio production on television, and we are proud to assist them on this pioneering project,” said Ulas Kacmaz, VP of Sales and Marketing at Zero Density. “This award is representative of the skill, ingenuity, and creativity of all teams involved.”

Built upon Epic’s leading Unreal technology, Reality provides additional features for real-time graphics, furthering the visual experience of broadcast through photoreal environments. The creative teams at FOX Sports leveraged the power of Unreal, as well as the full suite of Reality’s advanced features, to create a show that stands apart from the crowd at their state-of-the-art NASCAR virtual studio in North Carolina.

“We are elated that FOX Sports has been recognized for their distinct contributions to broadcast,” said Andy Blondin, Technical Product Manager at Epic Games. “Real-time technology continues to bring richer and more engaging content to live event coverage, and we’re truly excited for the future.”
