Zero Density and DreamWall are Making Science Fiction Reality with Teleportation
You’ve seen the movies when a room of people have meetings and half of them are just 3D holograms joining from locations far, far away. Well, get used to seeing it on your TV Channel soon. Zero Density and DreamWall is once more joining forces to disrupt virtual studio production with what graphics companies refer as ‘teleportation’.
Last month during the World Cup, RTBF rewrote the rules for broadcasting when the channel transported the Belgian star player Eden Hazard from Russia to the studio in Belgium for a live interview. As augmented Hazard fit perfectly in the studio sitting on his chair and making realistic eye-contact with the hosts, the possibilities for further cutting-edge application of this technology is expected and Zero Density is here to deliver with DreamWall.
Telefoot, a weekly football show on TF1, the first European TV channel, has been working with Zero Density and DreamWall on a ground-breaking project that will make millions of science fiction fans gasp. The channel had its first ‘teleported’ guest, Vahid Halilhodzic, joining the show, taking Hazard case one step further.
The milestone in Telefoot case and in broadcasting is that the guest was teleported behind the desk, next to the presenter, which has marked the first time use of the technology in this advanced way. A huge step forward for TF1 who always strives to innovate and impress the viewers, a challenge successfully raised with DreamWall.
Here how it is done: After the remote location adjusts the angle of the view as the main studio and send the sound & picture to the studio, all input is placed in a plane object using Zero Density technology linking the render engine to the tracking system. Voilà! You have a photo-realistic augmented guest on your set that could be transmitted from anywhere in the world.
Zero Density’s next generation built-in Keyer enables content producers and broadcasters to have a complete interaction between the virtual and real elements ranging from adjusting eye-contact, shadows, reflections and retractions of light.
Ferland Mendy was the latest teleported guest on Téléfoot!
